filosofie. De traditie van het schrijven van commentaren op het geschrift heeft ook ons begrip van dit geschrift verrijkt gedurende vele eeuwen. Gezien deze voortdurende belangstelling zijn zowel verschillende van deze commentaren als de hoofdtekst in vele talen vertaald.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De hoofdtekst bestaat uit vier hoofdstukken (of Pada's) met in totaal  195 s\u016btras (aforismen) over de theorie en de praktijk van Yoga. De vier hoofdstukken zijn: Sam\u0101dhi Pada (51 S\u016btra's), S\u0101dhana Pada (55 S\u016btra's), Vibhuti Pada (55 S\u016btra's), Kaivalya Pada (34 S\u016btra's).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sam\u0101dhi verwijst naar een yogische toestand waarin iemands zelf-identiteit versmelt met zuiver bewustzijn door vereniging van de drie-eenheid waarnemer, observerend en objecten van observatie). Dit is een poort van de geest naar Kaivalya (bevrijding). Het eerste hoofdstuk beschrijft Yoga, de aard ervan en de middelen om sam\u0101dhi te bereiken. De belangrijkste boodschap is: \"Yoga\u015b citta-vritti-nirodha\u1e25\", hetgeen betekent: \"Yoga is de beheersing van schommelingen\/patronen van bewustzijn\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">S\u0101dhana verwijst naar beoefening of discipline. Dit hoofdstuk beschrijft twee systemen van Yogabeoefening: Kriy\u0101 Yoga en A\u1e63\u1e6d\u0101\u1e45ga Yoga (Achtvoudige Yoga). Het eerste systeem omvat tapas (verzaking), sv\u0101dhyaya (zelfstudie van de geschriften) en i\u015bvara pra\u1e47idhana (toewijding aan God of zuiver bewustzijn). Deze laatste omvat acht fundamenten: Yama (morele regels), Niyama (specifieke regels), \u0100sana (fysieke houdingen), Pr\u0101\u1e47\u0101y\u0101ma (adembeheersing), Praty\u0101h\u0101ra (terugtrekking van de zintuigen), Dh\u0101ra\u1e47a (concentratie), Dhy\u0101na (meditatie) en Sam\u0101dhi (absorptie).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vibhuti verwijst naar \"kracht\" of \"manifestatie\". Dit hoofdstuk beschrijft de Siddhis (perfecties, krachten of vruchten van iemands beoefening) die door Samyama (een term om te verwijzen naar de beoefening van de laatste drie fundamenten van A\u1e63\u1e6d\u0101\u1e45ga Yoga - Dh\u0101ra\u1e47\u0101, Dhy\u0101na en Sam\u0101dhi) komen. Siddhi's worden hier echter beschouwd als obstakels in het uiteindelijke doel van bevrijding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kaivalya verwijst naar bevrijding of emancipatie. Dit hoofdstuk beschrijft het proces van bevrijding en het transcendentale zelf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5.
